Boundary Base field tools
Boundary Base RTK
RTK source selection, field workflow guidance and PPK recovery for Cairns and North Queensland.
Job location
Where is the job?
Use this device or enter decimal coordinates. Device location is used only to select a nearby source—it is not an RTK observation.
Device location normally requires HTTPS. You can always enter coordinates below.

Alternative sources
Choose another physical station only when field conditions or testing justify it.
Private by design
Your field location stays yours.
No accounts, cookies, sessions or stored coordinates. Your AUSCORS credentials are never sent to this page.
Field decision assistant
What positioning method should I use?
Answer a few operational questions. The recommendation uses your location and current physical AUSCORS sources, then leaves the final decision with you.

Station explorer
Physical AUSCORS stations
Explore current physical RTCM 3 streams in North Queensland. Appearance in the sourcetable is not a live health test.

Points show locations only. No coverage or accuracy radius is implied.

PPK recovery
Find and download matching reference data.
Rank nearby physical stations, check the Geoscience Australia RINEX archive and download observations covering the actual flight.
PPK reference options
Nearest physical stations
Candidate order is based on baseline. Archive files are supplied directly by Geoscience Australia.
Geoscience Australia archive
Matching RINEX files
Prefer the highest available sample rate, confirm the file covers the complete flight, retain station metadata, and run QA before release. Observation files are gzip and Hatanaka compressed.
Field reference
Positioning fundamentals, without the textbook.
Short operational notes for decisions in the field.
RTK vs PPK
RTK applies corrections during the mission. PPK applies matching reference observations afterwards. Preserve raw GNSS even when RTK is working so recovery remains possible.
RTK FIX vs verified accuracy
FIX describes the ambiguity solution, not independent proof of absolute accuracy. Record reported precision, baseline, control checks and QA separately.
What is baseline distance?
The geodesic distance from rover to reference station. Shorter is generally preferable, but field conditions, data quality and control still matter. CDS bands are operating guidance, not guarantees.
Known control vs temporary base
A base on trustworthy known control supports absolute positioning. An untied temporary base can give strong local relative positioning while retaining an unknown absolute offset.
D-RTK 3 Rover Mode
Use it with AUSCORS to observe and verify a temporary site point. Reoccupy the point and compare observations before accepting it.
D-RTK 3 Base Mode
Enter a verified coordinate and correct antenna height, connect the Matrice, confirm stable RTK FIX, and preserve raw observations.
Antenna height
Record the measured antenna height and measurement method. A wrong height directly affects the resulting vertical coordinate.
Ellipsoid height vs AHD
GNSS naturally produces ellipsoidal height. Australian Height Datum is a different height system. Do not relabel one as the other without a defensible transformation.
GDA2020 and MGA zones
Confirm the reference frame and projection from authoritative metadata. Around Cairns, MGA zone 55 is common, but never infer a job CRS from location alone.
What happens without internet?
A local base can maintain strong relative geometry. Preserve aircraft and base raw observations so absolute positioning can be tied or processed later.
Starlink workflow
Starlink is simply another internet path: controller to AUSCORS for direct RTK, or AUSCORS to the D-RTK 3 in rover mode. It does not change positioning fundamentals.
Cadastral guardrail
This utility supports mapping control and spatial QA. It does not establish legal boundaries, reinstate cadastral marks, or replace a registered cadastral surveyor.
